Replacing the toilet seat of a ’80s/90s WC
We are in the golden age of the bathroom market. These are years of great numbers and new constructions. In this time, series of sanitary ware that are still found in many bathrooms today became popular. These were staggering sales figures for the Italian market. Each ceramics company proposed a series that we can call “by specifications”. We call them this because the designers and architects of the great buildings of the period included their names in the technical details when they drew up the project. Here we find names that have become commonly used even by non-experts: Tesi series by Ideal Standard, Sintesi series by Cesame, Clodia series by Dolomite, Luce series by Catalano, Fantasia series by Pozzi Ginori.
TESI series by Ideal Standard
In our opinion, this sanitaryware by Ideal Standard (with the possible exception of Conca) was the best-selling sanitaryware of all time: Tesi. We have already talked about it in the post ”Ideal Standard WC and toilet seats old models (part 1)”. We find it in so many bathrooms in our homes. In the 80s and 90s, there was no important building site that did not have it in its specifications. Its success was certainly due to its very original shape. Its designers started with a rectangular shape and softened it in the corners with full, soft curves. A very comfortable shape to look at and use. You can find all the Tesi sanitary ware covers in the store, including the white Ideal Standard colour (which we have explained in this post) and the coloured versions: champagne, mink, whisper blue blue, deep blue and whisper grey, at the following link [ clik HERE ]
SINTESI series by Cesame
It is the series of sanitary ware with which Cesame challenged the big companies in the sector (we suggest this link [ clik HERE ] for more details): Sintesi (even the name was a clear reminder of Tesi ndr). Its upper inclined plane is very recognisable and led us to write about it in a post: “Sanitaryware with a sloping surface and their toilet seats with shaped bumpers”, we have seen that there is always a beginning to the particularities of things. Sintesi can be defined as the first product made with this characteristic or the first to be so successful that it was identified as an example of its category. With this sanitary ware, the Sicilian company achieved a market share worthy of the great producers of the time: Ideal Standard and Dolomite. This series of sanitary ware was produced not only in white but also in different colours, the main ones being: amber/champagne, mink/bahama and the legendary fallow deer (for an in-depth look at Cesame‘s colours we recommend this article [ clik HERE ]). All original toilet seats and dedicated versions can be found in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
CLODIA series by Dolomite
With this series designed by Antonio Bullo, Ceramica Dolomite challenges the successful series of the period: SintesiCesame series and TesiIdeal Standard series. The peculiarity of Clodia is the top with a step, we have talked about it in a post where we explain the importance of a toilet seat with step/shaped rubber bumpers. [ clik HERE ]. The original seat can be found in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]).
LUCE series by Ceramica Catalano
In our opinion, the series with which Ceramica Catalano‘s made its mark on the general public is this one, called Luce. A simple, soft shape. Dimensionally centred. Both toilet seats are available, both the thermoset version with wrap-around cover [ clik HERE ], either the wooden version coated in white polyester [ clik HERE ]. We have also dedicated a video to the Luce Catalano toilet seat cover:

FANTASIA series by Pozzi Ginori
A few years ago the company presented a new version of this sanitary ware, revolutionising its shape and bringing it into the category of square shapes. The first version of Fantasia you can see in the picture here, was very rounded and a very appreciated feature from a formal point of view was the very slight forward inclination of the foot and the cover of the sanitary ware. You can find its toilet seat in the most refined version in thermosetting in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
