As we have seen in so many posts on ceramic houses and their sanitary ware, there have been so many shapes. Rectangular, round, oval, elliptical, wide, narrow, long, large or small shapes. There is one genre of sanitary ware that has always struck us for its “strangeness”. We call them “NAKED“.
Practically the hydraulic part of the sanitary ware, called the siphon, has always been tried to hide it with the external part of the sanitary ware. In this type, however, some designers choose it as the characterising element of the shape, giving it the role of the protagonist. It is this element that attracts attention in the overall view. To better understand the concept, let us look at some of the best-known series produced by ceramic manufacturers.
FREE series Globo Ceramica

At the beginning of the year 2000, a landmark period in modern ceramic design, Ceramica Globo also gave birth to a revolutionary programme. It was called OPEN SPACE.
We found out all about it in the post: “The OPEN SPACE project by Ceramica Globo. Modern sanitary wares and their covers” where we saw, in addition to the BOWL series, the floor-standing and suspended SPACE CONCEPT series, which we can consider the “big sisters” of Free. Precisely with this series, as can be seen in the picture, instead of adding to give texture to the form or hiding details that spoil the style, it takes away. The name Free itself gives the idea of a design freedom that has led to making the body of the sanitary ware truly minimalist, leading as we said to the paradox that it is the toilet trap that is the protagonist of the series and in the bathroom! You will find the FREE WC covers, in the original and dedicated version, with normal and soft-close hinges at the following LINK (Clik HERE)
Sfera / Sistema C series Ceramica Catalano

Also Catalano in the period when Ceramic Globo introduced OPEN SPACE presented the Zero range and System C. An articulated programme of several series of sanitary ware. It is precisely in the C programme that we find a NAKED version of sanitary ware. If in FREE the front is perpendicular, in this sanitary ware the shape is curved and recalls the floor-standing version with a rim.

OUTLINE series Ceramica Althea

We have nicknamed this ceramic house the “house of wonders”. Able like few other companies to surprise the market with its very particular and “strange” ceramic shapes. We have seen some of these sanitary wares in other posts already published. In this: “Ceramica Althea and sanitary ware round, square and special shapes….There are no adaptable toilet seats here!” we discovered HERA, OCEANO and PLUS. Certainly not normal sanitary wares!
But let’s see their NAKED version, it was called Outline.
If in the two previous sanitary wares (FREE and SFERA) the proposal was only suspended sanitary ware. Here we find the two versions, suspended and floor-standing. How did they do it? Looking at the picture you can see. The distinguishing feature is the frame, which frames the hydraulic siphon as if it were displayed in a showcase. Incredible design.
