We started looking at sanitary ware, and their toilet seats, older than Ideal Standard in the post: ”The definitive guide to Ideal Standard sanitary ware. An incredible story told in the Sintesibagno toilet cover catalogue.(part 1)”, where we began to discover some workhorses such as: PONTI Z, ONDINE, MONVAS, ELLISSE, CONCA and LINDA. We continue our research into the history of this ceramic manufacturer, which hardly went unnoticed by the general public and competing ceramic manufacturers every time it presented a new ceramic series.
VELARA series Ideal Standard
It was the company’s first rectangular shape and also the first in the bathroom furniture sector to achieve good sales: Velara. A line of sanitary ware that conquered the taste of many in the 70s. Squared off the foot of the sanitary ware and its upper body. A stylistic genius that lightened its edges was the insertion of a curve in the hole that made it easier to “centre the hole”.
The fantastic pairing with its original toilet seat (pictured opposite) made for an astonishing formal logic. That’s why in the online toilet seat catalogue the Sintesibagno team offers the model as the original, which they had the company that was already producing it back then. It is available in Ideal Standard white, champagne, mink, whisper blue, whisper pink, whisper grey and pomegranate. You can find them all at the following link [ clik here ]
LIUTO series Ideal Standard
A series from the legendary 80s Ideal Standard catalogue, which also allowed the company to become the undisputed market leader from that period until the early 2000s: LIUTO. Initiator of a genre later followed by many other ceramic companies, we talked about it in the post: ”Teardrop-shaped toilet seats and sanitary ware (and their measurements)”, where we also saw: ARETUSINA, CLIO, TANGA, GEMMA, AFFETTO and GRACE. If you look at the photo opposite, you can see its teardrop shape perfectly. At the back it is narrower and widens in the direction of the user.
Ideal Standard Liuto series coloured toilet seats. It was mainly produced in the Ideal Standard white colour (don’t you know the difference between normal white (Eu) and Ideal Standard white? I recommend this post [ clik here ]), but also in the official Ideal Standard colours: champagne, mink, whisper pink, whisper blue, whisper grey… A useful tool to understand the colour of your sanitary ware and order the correct colour toilet seat is to read this post [ clik here ]. AQUATONDA series Ideal Standard
Ideal Standard Aquatonda toilet bowl. We are in the early 70s and this series was the first collaboration between Ideal Standard and Achille Castiglioni. It was with this series, (Aquatonda) at the designer’s own suggestion, that the company began using the raw material called vitreos china. From their website we take the description still current today: “The purest minerals, the best available on the market, carefully selected, dosed, mixed and fired at 1300° form the white vitrified porcelain called Vitreous-China: a material totally impermeable to water, unassailable to acids and alkalis, according to current UNI standards. During the manufacturing process, all Ideal-Standard sanitary wares are subjected to 4 types of controls: on the processing of the mixtures and glazes, on the regularity of the shaping, on the sturdiness (with load tests up to 150 kg for washbasins and up to 400 kg for WCs and bidets) and on the functionality.” An almost unique feature of this sanitary ware, apart from its shape, was its width, a good 40 cm! The toilet seat cover for this 70s sanitary ware can be found in the Sintesibagno online store at the following link [ clik here ]
RIALTO series Ideal Standard
RIALTO anticipated Velara by about a decade. A sanitary ware with important, square shapes. Very particular is the top marked laterally by two raised parts that give the upper part of the bowl a unique line. In addition to the white colour, it was produced and sold (with a fair number of pieces) in champagne and pomegranate. All colours of the Rialto toilet seat cover are available in the Sintesibagno store www.sintesibagno.shop e nel campo cerca digitare il nome della serie.
DIAGONAL series Ideal Standard
A revolutionary sanitary ware, presented in the early 90s: DIAGONAL. We have discussed its formal and dimensional particularity in several previous posts: “BIG sanitary ware, WCs and their large toilet seats”, “Sanitary ware with toilet seat covers that have special, original hinges. The Calla, Diagonal, Cesame hinge with tube…” This sanitary ware and its toilet seat cover are truly unique pieces, both in their shape and in the characteristic single hinge designed and produced just for it. Among the old Ideal Standard toilet seat and sanitary ware models, this was one of the most luxurious series. A large and impressive sanitary ware series. We described it well in the post on large sanitary ware [ clik here ] which we quote in part: “…this sanitary ware and its toilet seat cover are truly unique, both for their shape and for the characteristic single hinge designed and produced just for it…. is a really big toilet seat, its toilet seat cover is a good 50 cm long in total. The hinge, we said, is also special, belonging to the only toilet seat that only needs a central hinge to function and not the classic pair (one right and one left). In the Sintebagno.shop store we have created a section dedicated to the Diagonal toilet seat where you will find not only the complete toilet seat, but also the single hinge and also its original bumpers.
