We have started to look at this type of sanitary ware in previous posts. We have explained that we consider worthy of this category those sanitaryware that have launched such innovations in the bathroom world that they have been followed and imitated by all other ceramic companies. Some examples we would like to mention from the post ”Legendary sanitaryware. They create shapes, styles and colours then sought after by all. Let’s find the right toilet seat for these iconic toilets (part 1)” are: Series ALA Ideal Standard – the suspended series, Series SQUARE Pozzi Ginori – the champagne colour, Series FROZEN Simas – the rectangular shape and the Ideal Standard colours. From the post “Iconic sanitary ware: shapes, styles and colours ‘copied’ from the competitors. Looking for the toilet seat cover (part 2)” are: Series CLODIA Dolomite – the top step/stairs, Series ITALICA Pozzi Ginori – the big size, Series YOU&ME Hatria – the perfect (round) circle and the Cesame colours of its sanitary ware.
CONCA series Ideal Standard – the raised rear part
We are talking about perhaps the best-selling vase of all time: Conca by Ideal Standard. It has so many innovative features its shape that we were undecided on which one to choose to make it part of the ICONS category. We chose the particular rear elevation that revolutionised the classic flat rim of all sanitary ware that came before this ceramic series. An unmistakable aesthetic and hygienic detail. We explained in the post: “Sanitary wares with raised top. WC covers with 45° fixing hinges (part 1)” the sloping plane at the rear of the toilet. If you look carefully at the pictures, you can see that the holes where the toilet seat is to be fixed are not on flat parts of the sanitary ware, but on the curve of the riser. That is why the hinges (the metal parts) must have an inclination that allows them to be positioned correctly, precisely at 45°. If you watch the videos in our channel on these toilet seats [ clik HERE ] you will see very well how the inclined hinge is made. Of course, all Conca toilet seats in all materials and colours: Eu white, Ideal Standard white, champagne, mink, kashmir, beaver, walnut, whisper blue, blue background, blueberry, whisper green, fern green, whisper grey, pomegranate, cactus, black, manchurian yellow, dune yellow, you can find them in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
LINK series Flaminia – the modern wall-hung toilet (concealed fixings)
We have seen that the advent of wall-hung sanitary ware in bathrooms is due to ALA by Ideal Standard (see post: ”Wall-hung sanitary ware and their covers (part 1)“. Once the idea of suspension was accepted by the market, there was an evolution of sanitary ware on a formal level. Practicality was no longer enough, design forms were sought. If you take a good look at them, beyond the minimal aesthetics you will notice that the side holes, once present in wall-hung WCs, have disappeared. At the head of this formal revolution is the LINK by Ceramica Flaminia. (see post: ”Modern wall-hung toilets. Fixings are concealed and top-mounted toilet seats are required.(part 2)”). To understand the innovative impact in the style of the bathroom world of this ceramic series designed by Cappellini and Palomba we suggest the post: ”The FLAMINIA design series. Not just WCs and bidets, but LINK, SPIN, TERRA…. and their original toilet seats.” where we discuss it at length along with the other two Flaminia series of the same period: TERRA and SPIN. The toilet seat covers for these Link sanitaryware are available in all its variants (original wrap-around, original soft-close, polyester-coated wood and the various dedicated versions) at the following link [ clik HERE ]
AXA ONE series Uno Ceramica – oversized toilet seat spacing
Even the non-specialist knows that the centre distance in sanitary ware (the two holes in the sanitary ware where the anchoring pins of the toilet seat to the WC are inserted) is normally, and most of the time, between 14 and 16 cm. From the early 2000s onwards, with the presentation to the market of many ceramic series, so-called design series, special and very wide centre distances began to appear. It was and is an extreme formal choice, aimed, in our opinion, at leaving the rear surface of the sanitary ware as free as possible. Details, which in any case embellish the modern lines of sanitary ware.
To symbolise this category we have chosen: Axa One by Uno Ceramiche. A sanitary ware with a modern and refined shape, its toilet seat has a non-standard centre distance, the size is 24.5/25 cm. Both the original, highly sought-after version and the dedicated version are available at the following link [ clik HERE ]
EASY.02 series Pozzi Ginori – the careened bowl
If we have elected LINK as the symbol of modern wall-hung sanitary ware, we choose Easy by Pozzi Ginori (Design Antonio Citterio), as a symbol of the new flush floor sanitary ware, which we well saw in the post: ”The streamlined floor-standing sanitary ware (flush with the wall). Soft, wrap-around shapes. Top-mounted toilet seats are required.(expa)” where we take a moment to describe them: “They are considered to be the modern sanitary ware in the bathroom world. They are practically the next step up from wall-hung sanitary ware, which has always been chosen for hygiene (ease of cleaning) and aesthetics (an icon since the ’90s of modernity in the bathroom). With these shapes, which we will shortly explain why they are called carenate, ceramic companies have revolutionised their catalogues. In practice, sanitary ware of this type, as well as being very beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, are also very practical because the body of the sanitary ware has been brought to rest against the back wall in a total manner, with the consequence that there will no longer be any gaps between the inside and outside of the same, either on the floor or on the wall (this is why they are called careened or flush with the wall).” The Easy series was among the first to have these features, and very importantly was a best seller for several years in the bathroom furniture market. All toilet seats for this series are available in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik HERE ], also included, however, is a wooden version covered in white polyester for those looking for a seat that is perhaps less attractive than the round plastic original, but more practical as it is completely flat.
Bonsai series – the small shape
With the small shape of sanitary ware, all sanitary ware companies have tried their hand. They are all WCs and bidets with a maximum depth of 50 cm. In the post: ”Sintesibagno® selects from its toilet seat catalogue the ten SMALL SANITARIES that have made history in the category” we saw the best sellers: 500 by Pozzi, ZERO 45 by Catalano, SMALL by Ideal Standard, YOU&ME by Hatria, COMPACT by Eos Ceramica, ZEROLIGHT by Catalano and F-CONCEPT by Faleri. We decided to give the role of icons to this Globo ceramic sanitaryware because it is, in our opinion, the most essential shape (both base and top). The most suitable with its slender figure to give the idea of small. Find the toilet cover for this small sanitary fitting at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Montebianco series – the shape and antique style
In a few years (2025) this legendary sanitary series will be 100 years old! Perhaps the most imitated sanitary ware in the entire bathroom world, see post: ”And then comes ‘Montebianco’ Classic/antique sanitary ware and their toilet seats (part 2)” Montebianco sanitary ware was designed by Guido Andlovitz and presented as early as 1925 by Richard Ginori. Despite a series of different restyling, they have survived to the present day and are still present in the current Pozzi Ginori catalogue. As the catalogue itself states: “a timeless success. Montebianco is the historic bathroom line that keeps its timelessness intact. A modern classic“. Its round top shape and parallelepiped body that widens towards the floor make it unmistakable. Its toilet seat cover also has an unmistakable shape and can be found in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Today we have looked at other ceramic series and their very important colours for the entire bathroom world.
