Throughout the history of bathroom design, there have been several forms of sanitary ware that have been more or less successful depending on the period. We have seen in several previous posts some of these formal types. From sanitary ware and toilet seats with shapes ovals/elongated, rectangular, hexagonal/octogonal, round, ovals e also several with odd shapes and some with shapes embroidered by curves. Today we will discover a shape that in its simplicity modernised the shape of sanitary ware at the turn of the ’80s and ’90s. CLODIA series Dolomite
The iconic series in this formal sanitary ware category is: Clodia. bestsellers Ceramica Dolomite which achieved incredible sales figures also thanks to this series, is often remembered for its special feature of the stepped upper floor (which we mentioned in the post: “Sanitary ware with a sloping top and their toilet covers“) but its D shape, designed by Antonio Bullo, marked a turning point in the history of sanitary ware in the ’80s. ESEDRA series Ideal Standard
In the early 2000s, the Ceramica Ideal Standard decided to introduce a new D-shaped ceramic series and called it Esedra. It is perhaps the last series produced by the company to have reached the sales volumes of the ‘five sisters’, and is considered by many in the industry to be the heir to the tile series par excellence (also by Ideal Standard, [ clik here ]) the TESI series. It is the first D-shape presented by this ceramic house that was beginning to attract a lot of public interest at that time (see Clodia just looked at) Characterised by a large upper shelf and clean, modern forms. SFERA NUOVA series Catalano
It is the evolution of the first edition that Catalano launched in the ’90s under the name of: Sfera. That ceramic series will enable future success for this Civita Castellana-based ceramic company.
