Today we continue our search in the history of bathroom furnishings for ceramic series that have left an important imprint both from an economic point of view (large sales numbers mean large revenues and resources for ceramic manufacturers) and from a formal point of view (perhaps not impressive sales numbers, but a reference point in design and therefore a style icon that lends value to the company brand). We started with the first post on this topic: ”The bestselling sanitary ware of every ceramic house. Use the Sintesibagno catalogue to find the toilet seat for these models (part 1)” where we talked about: CONCA by Ideal Standard, LINK by Ceramica Flaminia, EASY Pozzi Ginori and YOU&ME Hatria. In the second Post: ”The bestselling sanitary ware of every ceramic house. Use the Sintesibagno catalogue to find the toilet seat for these models (part 2)” we discovered the sanitary ware and their toilet seats: LFT Spazio by Simas, SINTESI by Cesame, CLODIA by Dolomite and DIANA Azzurra Ceramica. In the third: ”The bestselling sanitary ware of every ceramic house. Use the Sintesibagno catalogue to find the toilet seat cover for these models (part 3)” we saw: ANTICA by Vincenti, PIENZA by Ceramiche Senesi, MOBELLO by Laufen and ARKE’ by ceramica Galassia. Today we focus on very dated sanitaryware. Sanitaryware that conquered the bathrooms of Italians (and not only) in the 70s and 80s.
SPAZIO series by Ceramica Scala
In the last period of its glorious history Ceramica SCALA is known for series with a simple and essential form that focus on practicality (see IRIL or GEMMA). Spazio is the only exception to the company’s usual simplicity. It is a sanitary fitting from the 1960s and 1970s that for its time surprised with its incredible design. It was complemented in later years by a toilet seat cover (produced by Friges) with a rear half-moon that hid the hinges and fitted into the design of the back of the toilet with a very unusual aesthetic effect. The toilet bowl and its cover can be considered large shapes. His toilet seat measures almost 50 cm from the connection to the end of the toilet bowl. The 3-piece toilet seat with the half-moon is unfortunately no longer available, however, we have selected a version (you will see the rear hinges) that is perfect in length and curves that you will find at the following link [ clik HERE ]
83 (Design F. Valeri) series by Ceramica Astra
Astra Ceramica was among the first, thanks to designer F.Valeri, to give rigour and formal purity to sanitary ware at that time. It conquered the market and consumer tastes with this series: Series 83. With this series he anticipated by several years the style and shape (large dimensions) that other competing ceramic manufacturers would later propose. In the post: “BIG sanitary ware, WCs and bidets large dimensions modern lines and their covers (part 2)” read HERE we have seen for example the ONDA series by Ceramica Hidra. It was a very large D-shape with a clean, essential line. Although it was very long, the toilet seat measured 48/49 cm with the hinges, to make it slim it was only 35 cm wide. The toilet seat covers for these Astra sanitary ware in the official colours can be found in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
MEDITERRANEA series by Vavid
Ceramica VAVID produced several ceramic series that were best sellers in those years. We chose Mediterranea because in addition to being a sales champion, it was also a formal innovator. This sanitary ware by Vavid broke new formal ground, later copied by many other sanitary ware companies. Its rectangular shape is embellished with a detail that is not only aesthetic but also of great practical interest. In fact, the designers of the ceramics company inserted a riser in the back of the toilet with the precise intention of preventing the natural ‘dirt’ that is clearly present in bathrooms from getting in the back and helping to keep the bathroom floor clean and tidy. In the history of bathroom furniture this detail was taken up by many other ceramic companies as we have seen in the post: “Particular sanitaryware and toilet seats: WCs with a back step (angled and inclined)” where we also saw another series by the company called ORIENTALE, SYMBOL by Cesame, Catalano series ZERO+ and ZERO 54, Axa ONE and TOWER series by Pozzi Ginori. You can find Mediterranea toilet seat in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Today we have continued to look at the series of sanitary ware and their toilet seats that we believe have been sales champions in the bathroom industry, focusing on the period of the 1970s. Perhaps you have recognised the manufacturer of your toilet and are able to buy the right and precise toilet seat cover without making a mistake. However, if you are still in doubt about which toilet seat cover to look for for your toilet in the bathroom, we suggest you send us an e-mail to info@sintesibagno.it or a WhatsApp message to 3341288978 with two pictures of your sanitary fitting and a few measurements and we will be able to help you choose.
