We have already met some of the best-known designers who have gone to great lengths to create fantastic and innovative ceramic series. In the post: “Antonio Citterio and the partnership with Pozzi-Ginori. Legendary ceramic series and their toilet seats” we met the designer who gave style back to the Pozzi Ginori series and designed: EASY.02, 500 series, 900 series and Q3. In the post: “The first designers of the bathroom world: Ponti, Castiglioni, Aulenti. Historical sanitary ware and toilet seats” we saw the pioneers of the Ideal Standard style and the ceramic series: PONTI Z, ONDINE, AQUATONDA, LINDA and TONDA. We saw: ”Antonia CAMPI. The incredible Lavenite, Richard Ginori and Pozzi Ginori sanitary ware series designed by her and their toilet seat covers” and the ceramic series Lavenite, Ginori: SQUARE, TORENA, TABOR and CONCHIGLIA. We have seen: “ASTRA Ceramica tiles design F. Valeri. The beginnings of ceramic style in the bathroom. The old series and their strange toilet seats” with its series: GEMMA, Series 83, FORMA, Pantheon and Versailles. We have seen how the leading German company has chosen: “Philippe Starck and the Duravit ceramic series. Original VS Dedicated toilet seats which one to choose?” which gave birth to its series bearing the STARCK name in the various editions: 1,2,3 and ME. We have seen: “Terri Pecora and its designer sanitary ware. Never before have original or perfectly dedicated toilet seats been needed” how she managed to give a clearly defined style to the Simas series: LUNA, FLOW, BOHEMIEN and E-LINE. All thoroughbreds in the industry! Today we discover one of the greatest: Antonio Bullo. We will see impressive design production and an ability to innovate worthy of the greatest. Marking the ceramic style in the ’80s and ’90s with the catalogue Dolomite, to dominate the early 2000s with Hatria Ceramica and conquer the second decade of the 2000s with the Roca series, means being able to intercept consumer taste as few others have been able to do.
CLODIA series Ceramica Dolomite
Year 1985: Clodia Series. One of the first D-shaped series in the industry and very modern for the period. Characterised by the famous step top (we talked about this feature in the post: “Toilet seat with moulded bumper for toilet bowls with inclined plane“). We are in the golden age of real estate construction in Italy, a period of large specifications and the development of second homes. These are years of large numbers and new construction. This period saw the emergence of sanitary ware series that are still found in many bathrooms today, including Clodia. These are staggering sales figures for the Italian market. Each ceramics company proposed a series that we can call “from the specifications” and was the direct competitor of this one designed by Bullo. We call it this because the designers and architects of the great buildings of the period when they drew up the project included their names in the technical details. We find here names that have become commonplace even to the uninitiated: Tesi series by Ideal Standard, Sintesi series by Cesame, Luce series by Catalano, Fantasia series by Pozzi Ginori. On a vase of this type, we recommend buying the old original product, which you can find in the store at the following link [ clik here ]
ZELIG sereis Ceramica Dolomite
Year 1988: Zelig Series. Also in the ’80s, the designer proposed a round series, an inspiration for many others in the years to come. Many of the ceramic series that followed the path of the round have been seen in previous posts: “Round toilets and the almost made-to-measure round toilet seat replacement!” where we saw: Arkè, El1, Wind, You&Me, Starck1 and in the post: “Round toilet seats and sanitary ware (part 2)” where we found: Flow, Bowl 50. Of the round sanitary wares, it is the smallest in width, only 36 cm (the toilet seat 35 cm), but the Dolomite designers gave it the right formal proportions. It was presented in wall-hung, floor-standing and also as a monobloc version (with ceramic cistern). The Dolomite catalogue we quote read: “Clean, round curves, compact dimensions and modern design characterise the new complete line of Dolomite sanitary ware: Zelig“. We had a dedicated toilet seat cover made to replace the old, out-of-print plastic one, practically perfect, you can find it at the following link [ clik here ]
NOVELLA series Ceramica Dolomite
Year 2002: Novella Series. A leap in time of more than ten years, which for the bathroom furnishing sector is a geological era from a formal point of view, and Bullo surprised again. The Novella project, characterised by the simplicity and perfection of the oval, was made up of many elements: wall-hung and floor-standing sanitary ware, asymmetric washbasins (the company was one of the first to propose them)… a special feature, also innovative, was the possibility for floor-standing sanitary ware to choose between two depths: the classic 58 cm and a smaller version (called Novella Mini) of only 50 cm, which entered the market segment we saw in the post dedicated to small sanitary ware (readable HERE). The toilet seat for the normal and mini Novella model in the same version as the original in thermoset is available in the Sintesibagno store, however, you will also find a version in white coated wood that is very popular, at the following link [ clik here ]
SWEET LIFE series Ceramica Dolomite
Year 2002: Sweet Life Series. Also from the same year, the early 2000s, is this ultra-modern ceramic series and, now 20 years later, still topical. A shape that we can consider almost triangular draws sanitary ware that does not go unnoticed and certainly stands out from all those of Dolomite’s competing ceramic manufacturers. Erano gi anni in cui cominciavano a essere diffusi i primo sanitari filo parete (carenati) che abbiamo visto nel post: “The floor-standing sanitary ware is flush with the wall. Soft, wrap-around shapes. Top-mounted toilet seats are required (EXPA)” and a company like Dolomite used to always being the forerunner of bathroom styles and trends relies on its trusted designer to present its sanitary ware in this category. Bullo pulls formal magic out of his hat. In addition to the floor-standing version, the sanitary wares of this series were also available in a suspended version. Even this version, with a few structural modifications (e.g. the fixing system in the suspended series where bolts are visible, not concealed), could easily compete with modern-day sanitary ware series. The original Sweet Life thermoset toilet seat cover sold out in 2017! A variant in white coated wood has been presented, which you can find in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik here ]
