When looking for a WC-Seat, the first thing you do to find a match is to measure it. I look at the length and width and I go to some DIY or plumbing retailer or maybe some online site and start comparing all the available measurements until I find a match. Once we find the model we think is correct we buy it and go back (or wait in case of a web purchase like Sintesibagno.shop) at home with our trophy toilet seat. As soon as we set to work fitting it, we realise, unless we have indeed chosen correctly, that perhaps: the measurements match, but the shape does not! Or the measurements match, but the hinges don’t fit! Or the measurements match, but the bumpers don’t! Or….. In short, we realise that a toilet seat cover in its simplicity is made up of many elements that must all fit the toilet for which it is intended.
We have in the picture above three toilet seat covers that all have a size 43×36. Placed side by side they already allow one to see that although on a dimensional level they are perfectly equal, on a formal level they are really different. One is a D-shape, one is a rectangularshape, the third is an almost triangular shape. But as we said, the differences don’t stop there, and when we are about to buy a toilet seat we have to take this into account. Let’s talk about the hinges: the model on the left has adjustable hinges with clamping from below (HERE you can see how the assembly is carried out).
The rectangular-shaped one on the other hand has a fixed hinge type with a 45° inclination made to be placed on an inclined ceramic surface. Finally, the third one shown in the following photo is fitted with a hinge that is fastened from above (expansion), which we described well in the post: “Toilet seat with expansion fixing from above”
These hinges are needed in cases where there is no space at the rear of the toilet seat to access the toilet seat mounting and the toilet seat has to be fixed from above. Let’s come to the bumpers. Another feature that, given the same size, shape and type of hinge, can be different and lead to the toilet seat cover not being perfect for your toilet bowl/toilet. It happens that, as we have seen in the post: “Function of inclined bumpers in toilet seats“, some WCs have a sloping top or a step, which leads to the toilet seat needing sloping or shaped rubbers to give it stability in use. Without which durability would also be compromised.
