In more recent times, many ceramic manufacturers have been offering sanitary ware series and consequently the rectangular shaped toilet seat. With the four corners perfectly at 90° is the rule today, but until before the 90s one mainly found rectangles with rounded corners. The typical shape of the old rectangular sanitary ware models was CONCA by Ideal Standard, as we saw in the post: “The CONCA WC and toilet seat and its ‘brothers‘”. The first breakthrough was presented by Ceramica Dolomite with the EBLA series, followed by: FROZEN, VERSO, PLUS, OUTLINE….
EBLA series Ceramica Dolomite
We are in the early 1990s, Ceramica Dolomite surprised the bathroom market with this ceramic series called Ebla. For the first time we are faced with a rectangular sanitary ware with 90° angles, a very complicated ceramic workmanship that the ceramic masters of the well-known company manage to do to perfection. Four diagonal lines reduce the upper surface towards the parallelepiped of the body below marked at 2/3 by an emptying of formal lightening. This ceramic series was the forerunner of a new formal category (rectangular shapes) that would soon conquer the taste of many consumers. Its rectangular toilet seat cover can be found in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik here ]
FROZEN series Ceramica Simas
We arrive at the beginning of the new millennium and industry insiders, but especially customers about to renovate their bathrooms, are pleasantly surprised by a revolutionary shape. It is designed and produced by the designers of the Simas Ceramica from Civita Castellana: Frozen. We have often described it as the sanitary ware series that best represents the rectangular shape category. (see post: “Legendary sanitary ware. They create shapes, styles and colours then sought after by all. We find the right toilet seat in these iconic vessels.(part 1)“) In the post where we talked about all rectangular/square sanitary ware and the replacement toilet seat we talked about it like this: “…perfection of form. As I was saying, the point of arrival of design is to create a product that is always mentioned when talking about the category it belongs to. That’s right, in the bathroom furnishing sector, when it comes to square/rectangular sanitary ware the point of reference is this series produced by Simas. It could only be called Frozen. We still remember the moment when it was presented to the trade, it left everyone speechless! It was the typical product that you either fell madly in love with at first sight or you thought it was just a provocation by some design creative. The fact remains that you had to give it just one look. In terms of sales, it was quite successful. Not a best seller, but that was only due to the high cost of the elements, which was amply justified given the production costs, but not affordable for everyone“. The original toilet seat covers for this sanitary ware, both the first version in white coated wood and the version in wrap-around thermoset (also available with slow-motion hinges) can be found at the following link [ clik here ]
VERSO series Ceramica Catalano
The road successfully opened by FROZEN leads other ceramic companies to discover and interpret the rectangular shape in ceramic series. Ceramica Catalano, another company from the ceramic district of Civita Castellana will propose: Verso. Strictly rectangular, we consider it the naked version of Frozen. The designers worked on the emptying of the sanitary ware body. While the parallelepiped is retained in the upper part of the body, in the lower part the only visible part is the drain trap (which for obvious reasons cannot disappear). A formal streamlining that was much appreciated and that immediately distinguished it from all competing ceramic series. Its original toilet seat in the new Slim version is available in the Sintesibagno online catalogue at the following link [ clik here ]
OUTLINE series Althea Ceramiche
With this series Ceramica Althea went really far with the use of the expression: “design object”. We started with the parallelepiped of Frozen, moved on to the medium of Verso and arrived here with: Outline. Looking at the photo on the side, we can see the pot on the side and see its particularity: the external area has been retained, the four flat sides, including the one resting on the bathroom floor, and everything possible has been emptied (except for the so-called hydraulic parts of the pot, the utilisation basin and siphon). Unique and unmistakable is this line of sanitary ware from the Civita Castellana company. You will find its original thermoset toilet seat cover with wrap-around cover in the Sintesibagno toilet seat catalogue at the following link [ clik here ]
PLUS series Althea Ceramica
If with OUTLINE the Althea designers tried to reduce the ceramic part in the shape of the toilet and bidet to the essential, with Plus they go in the opposite direction and design a full parallelepiped. A beautiful change of depth in the part where it rests on the floor makes its figure lighter and slimmer and distinguishes it from its direct competitor Frozen by Simas. With a width of 38 cm, it is an important figure and the widest in its category. You can find his wrap-around thermoset toilet seat in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik here ]
