A designer capable of breaking new ground of the calibre of Francesco Lucchese is hard to find. From the website of his studio we discover that: “Francesco Lucchese was born in Messina in 1960 and graduated in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1985. He began his career by receiving the 1st ADI award with a folding chair project and in 1985 he founded the Lucchesedesign studio developing architecture, interior design and product design projects all over the world. He collaborates as art director and corporate consultant for internationally renowned companies, also dealing with strategic corporate positioning. At the same time, he continues his teaching activity at the Faculty of Design of the Milan Polytechnic.” And we can discover the complexity of its project. We find this ingenuity in two iconic and highly successful sanitary ware series, a line designed for Hatria called YOU&ME and one for Olympia called Cristal. We will see how both are unique and unmistakable.
YOU&ME series Hatria Ceramica
We saw the history of this ceramic house, now called HATRIA, which was originally called SPEA, in the post: “Ceramica SPEA, the origins of Hatria shapes. All toilet seats out of production“. There we started to see some of his successful ceramic series: the series SELECTA and its upper floor with step, the large size of GRAN SASSO, LARA with its rear elevation and large, rectangular shape of EDOS. In the post: “First Ceramica Spea, now Hatria. All sanitary ware series from a historic company. Where can I find the old 🚽 toilet seat?” we have seen the series MARYLIN, ERIKA, LISA and the one designed by designer Giorgina Castiglioni, LOTUS series. The company’s modern 2.0 stylistic turn comes by entrusting the creative style to two world-renowned designers, one is Antonio Bullo (see post HERE) drawing DOLCEVITA and DAYTIME and the other Lucchese that gives life to the best-selling ceramic series: YOU&ME. it is such a beautiful and special series that we have already talked about it in several articles. In the post: “What is the wheelbase in toilet seats? (part 1)” we saw its particular 4.5/5 cm wheelbase (readable HERE). In the post: “WC covers sizes | small for small sanitary ware” we evaluated its small size. Finally in the post: “Round sanitary ware like a circle. Here you need customised toilet seats!” we have designed its round upper circle shape combined with a square lower base. You will find its covers in the store at the following link [ clik here ]
CRYSTAL sereis Olympia Ceramica
Olympia Ceramica is a company in the famous Civita Castellana district, the realm of all the major Made in Italy ceramic companies. Here are some posts on the subject (CLIK HERE). To fully understand the Crystal project designed by Lucchese and produced by Olympia, we take a cue from a passage from their website: ”Olympia was founded in 1979 and immediately proved to be a company well suited to the tastes and trends generated at the time. Great credit is due to the production process of complete bathroom furniture series; unlike other Italian factories, which are linked to the furniture sector and therefore more concentrated on washbasins, Olympia began producing sanitary ware right from the start, employing experience that has grown over the years and which today guarantees a constant level of high quality.” And it is precisely this ability to work with ceramics that allows the company to follow the lines indicated by the designer who describes the series on his institutional website as follows: “The ‘Crystal’ collection is inspired by the many facets of crystal and the preciousness of diamond. Inclined surfaces meet to create the volume of the products, which are ideally placed in an elegant and refined environment.” One only has to look at the image of the sanitary ware to imagine the complexity of the company’s production and realise that the shape truly recalls the most precious crystal of all: the diamond. The designer and the ceramic company have created a new formal style never seen before in bathroom furniture. These sanitary wares must be fitted with the original Olympia toilet seat, which you can find in the Sintesibagno online store at the following link [ clik here ]
