The Spanish company ROCA has truly conquered the world, not only commercially, but also geographically. It has a distribution across continents that few other ceramic manufacturers can boast. As we saw in the post: “The Spanish ceramic company that has conquered the world: ROCA CERAMICA. Odd and peculiar series and their 🚽toilet seats (part 1)” its distribution covers as many as 170 countries globally: from Europe, to the United States, via all of South America. Here we started to discover some of the sanitary ware lines it produces or has produced, including: DAMA, POLO and NEXO. All ceramic series and their particular toilet seats, some oddly shaped. Today we will focus on other models. These include the trapezoidal Giralda series, developed from the initial Laufen design by Mobello, the two rectangular series and their toilet seats: Sidney and Debba.
SIDNEY series Roca Ceramica
As we have seen in many previous posts, the rectangular shape is very popular in the bathroom furnishing sector. We have seen it here: “The winner is… our special ranking of rectangular sanitary wares and their covers” how many ceramic manufacturers have interpreted this geometric shape: Ideal Standard with CONCA and VELARA, Dolomite with EBLA and RIO, Vavid with EMILIA, Flaminia with TERRA, Simas with FROZEN, Althea with OUTLINE, Globo with SPACE STONE, Kerasan with EGO and Hidra with DIAL. The prince of shapes also presented his rectangular shape and decided to call it: Sidney. What makes it almost unique is the addition on one of the four sides that make up the rectangle (the one on the front towards the sanitary ware user) of a slight curvature. DEBBA series Roca Ceramica
Remaining with the rectangular sanitary ware shapes, the Debba series was a great sales success. Perhaps less special and more of a common character reminiscent of other ceramic series from competing manufacturers. However modern in terms of form and with a quality/price ratio that allowed it to make a name for itself among the general public of building specifications. With such clear formal boundaries between the top of the sanitary ware and the foot we see it competing (even if the shapes are not rectangular) with series such as GEMMA 2 by Dolomite and more recent X2 by Gsi or MY by Hidra. GIRALDA series Roca Ceramica
As we have already written, in 1999 Roca acquired the Swiss company Keramik Holding Laufen. Starting from the shape of one of its most popular ceramic series called MOBELLO, the technical department of the Spanish company developed the Giralda ceramic series. A trapezoidal shape among the most successful and successful. we find it very similar to a series by Catalano called IGEA. We have not been able to trace back through our research which of the two appeared on the market first. Either way, they have both, by different routes, conquered the taste of many customers.
